TERMS & CONDITIONS
Jayes And Sons Mobile Mechanic Services
Last updated: 1 November 2026
By requesting a quote, booking an appointment, approving a repair or authorising work to commence, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions. These terms apply to all vehicle servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and repair work undertaken by Jayes And Sons Mobile Mechanic Services.
1. Quotes, Estimates and Authorisation
1.1 All quotes and estimates are based on the information provided by the customer and the condition of the vehicle at the time of assessment.
1.2 Quotes may be subject to change if additional faults, damage, seized components or unforeseen complications are identified during the work.
1.3 No additional work or expenditure will be undertaken without the customer's agreement, except where necessary to make the vehicle safe in an emergency and where the customer has authorised this.
1.4 Verbal, written, text message and WhatsApp approvals may be used to confirm acceptance of quotations, additional work and parts orders.
1.5 The customer is responsible for ensuring that the correct vehicle registration, vehicle details and description of the reported fault are provided.
2. Deposits and Special-Order Parts
2.1 A deposit or full payment may be required before ordering parts, particularly for special-order, vehicle-specific, expensive or non-returnable components.
2.2 The customer must expressly agree to the required deposit amount and any relevant non-returnable or cancellation conditions before the parts are ordered.
2.3 Once the customer has authorised the order, Jayes And Sons Mobile Mechanic Services may proceed with purchasing the agreed parts.
2.4 Where a customer subsequently cancels the booking or decides not to proceed, the business may retain or recover reasonable, evidenced costs incurred as a result of the cancellation. This may include:
-
Non-refundable supplier charges.
-
The cost of specially ordered or vehicle-specific parts that cannot reasonably be returned.
-
Reasonable cancellation or restocking charges imposed by the supplier.
-
Other direct and reasonable costs arising from the customer's cancellation.
2.5 Any remaining deposit balance, after legitimate and recoverable costs have been accounted for, will be returned to the customer where applicable.
2.6 A deposit does not automatically become non-refundable simply because it has been paid. All deductions and retention of payments will be subject to applicable consumer legislation and cancellation rights.
2.7 Special-order parts will not be ordered until the required deposit or payment has been received and customer authorisation has been obtained.
3. Diagnostic Assessments and Charges
3.1 Diagnostic assessments are intended to investigate reported vehicle faults and establish the most likely cause of the problem.
3.2 A diagnostic fault code does not necessarily identify the failed component or confirm that a particular part requires replacement.
3.3 Further investigation, testing, dismantling or specialist equipment may be required to establish the underlying fault. Any additional chargeable investigation will be discussed and authorised before proceeding.
3.4 Where a diagnostic assessment has been carried out and the customer chooses not to proceed with the recommended repair, a diagnostic fee of £40 will be payable.
3.5 The diagnostic fee covers the time and equipment used to investigate the reported fault and is payable regardless of whether the customer subsequently authorises the repair.
3.6 A diagnostic assessment is not a guarantee that every existing or underlying fault within the vehicle will be identified.
4. Customer-Supplied Parts
4.1 Customers choosing to supply their own parts remain responsible for ensuring that the components are correct, suitable, compatible and of acceptable quality for the vehicle.
4.2 Jayes And Sons Mobile Mechanic Services will provide labour for the agreed installation or repair but cannot provide a manufacturer's parts warranty for components supplied by the customer.
4.3 We cannot accept responsibility for defects, premature failure, incorrect fitment specifications or incompatibility arising from customer-supplied components, where these issues are not caused by our workmanship.
4.4 If customer-supplied parts are incorrect, damaged, defective or unsuitable, additional labour and costs may be required. No additional work will be undertaken without customer approval.
4.5 If a customer-supplied component fails after installation, any investigation, removal or refitting work may be chargeable where the issue is not attributable to our workmanship. The customer's statutory rights remain unaffected.
4.6 We reserve the right to decline fitting any component that we reasonably consider unsafe, unsuitable, damaged or incompatible with the vehicle.
5. Existing Damage, Seized Components and Sump Plugs
5.1 Customers must inform us of any known existing damage, previous repair work, seized components or mechanical issues before work commences.
5.2 Components that have deteriorated through age, corrosion, previous incorrect repairs or general wear may be difficult or impossible to remove without additional complications.
5.3 Where a sump plug, fastener, bolt, thread or other component is seized, damaged or previously incorrectly installed, additional work may be necessary to remove or repair it.
5.4 Where a customer specifically requests removal of a seized or damaged sump plug, the customer will be informed of the potential risks before work proceeds.
5.5 If existing damage, stripped threads, damaged sump threads or damage to the sump itself is identified, the cost of replacement parts and additional work required to rectify that pre-existing damage will be the customer's responsibility, unless caused by our own failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.
5.6 Where an unexpected complication occurs, work will be paused where reasonably possible and the customer will be informed before additional chargeable work is carried out.
6. Additional Faults and Unforeseen Mechanical Problems
6.1 Vehicles may have underlying mechanical problems that are not immediately apparent during an initial inspection or diagnostic assessment.
6.2 During dismantling or repair work, additional faults, worn components or damage may become apparent.
6.3 Examples include, but are not limited to:
-
Seized or broken bolts and fasteners.
-
Damaged threads and fixings.
-
Corrosion or deterioration.
-
Internal engine damage.
-
Oil starvation and lubrication-related damage.
-
Previously incorrect or incomplete repairs.
-
Additional faults associated with interconnected mechanical components.
6.4 We will explain any additional findings and provide an updated estimate where further work is required.
6.5 No additional chargeable repairs will be undertaken without customer authorisation.
6.6 We cannot guarantee that repairing one identified fault will resolve unrelated or underlying mechanical issues.
7. Repairs Following Previous Garage Work
7.1 Where a vehicle has previously been repaired, dismantled or worked on by another garage or individual, we cannot accept responsibility for pre-existing damage, incorrect installation, missing components or workmanship carried out by another party.
7.2 If issues arising from previous repairs are identified, the customer will be informed where possible before further work proceeds.
7.3 Where we are asked to carry out repairs based on another garage's diagnosis or recommendations, our work will be limited to the repairs specifically agreed.
7.4 Fitting replacement components does not guarantee that the vehicle will operate correctly if additional underlying faults are present.
8. Parts Warranty and Workmanship
8.1 Parts supplied and fitted by Jayes And Sons Mobile Mechanic Services will carry the applicable manufacturer's warranty, normally 12 months where provided by the manufacturer and subject to the manufacturer's terms.
8.2 Timing chain replacement work carried out by our business carries a 12-month warranty, subject to the agreed scope of work and applicable warranty conditions.
8.3 Warranty claims must be reported to us as soon as reasonably possible, with details of the problem and any relevant evidence.
8.4 Where a potential warranty issue is identified, we must be given a reasonable opportunity to inspect the vehicle and investigate the reported fault before third-party repairs are undertaken, unless urgent action is necessary for safety reasons.
8.5 Warranty cover does not extend to unrelated faults, normal wear and tear, misuse, neglect, overheating, oil starvation, lack of maintenance, external damage or subsequent work carried out by another party where these are not attributable to our work or supplied parts.
8.6 Warranty exclusions will not apply where doing so would remove a customer's statutory rights or where the issue is attributable to our failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.
8.7 Customer-supplied parts are not covered by a parts warranty from our business. This does not remove any rights the customer may have against the parts supplier or any rights relating to our workmanship.
9. Payments and Outstanding Balances
9.1 Payment is due upon completion of the agreed work unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed in writing.
9.2 Deposits and advance payments must be paid within the agreed timeframe to secure special-order parts or confirm arrangements.
9.3 Any additional work, parts or labour must be authorised by the customer before being undertaken.
9.4 Where an invoice remains unpaid after its agreed due date, we reserve the right to pursue recovery of the outstanding balance through appropriate legal channels.
9.5 Any interest, recovery costs or other charges will only be applied where legally permitted and properly recoverable.
9.6 The customer remains responsible for payment of all authorised work and parts supplied, subject to their statutory rights.
10. Appointments, Access and Working Conditions
10.1 Customers must ensure that the vehicle is accessible and located in a safe, suitable and legal place for work to be carried out.
10.2 Adequate space and reasonable working conditions must be provided.
10.3 Customers must inform us of any restrictions affecting vehicle access, parking, security or working conditions.
10.4 We reserve the right to postpone or decline work where conditions are unsafe, unsuitable or prevent the repair from being carried out correctly.
10.5 Weather conditions, unexpected circumstances or factors outside our reasonable control may require an appointment to be rearranged.
11. Vehicle Road Testing and Customer Permission
11.1 Where necessary to verify a repair or investigate a reported fault, a road test may be required.
11.2 Any road test will only be undertaken where appropriate permission has been obtained and the vehicle is considered safe and legally compliant to drive.
11.3 The customer must inform us of any known issues that could affect the safety or legality of operating the vehicle.
11.4 Where a vehicle is considered unsafe or unsuitable for a road test, alternative checks will be discussed with the customer.
12. Cancellations and Rearranged Appointments
12.1 Customers are requested to provide as much notice as possible when cancelling or rearranging an appointment.
12.2 Where a customer cancels after authorising work or ordering parts, reasonable and evidenced costs incurred as a direct result may be recoverable, subject to applicable cancellation rights.
12.3 Any cancellation charge must reflect a genuine and reasonable loss or expense and will not be used as a penalty.
12.4 Where we need to cancel or rearrange an appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, we will notify the customer as soon as reasonably possible and arrange an alternative appointment where appropriate.
12.5 Nothing in this section removes any statutory cancellation rights available to the customer.
13. Consumer Cancellation Rights
13.1 Where applicable, customers entering into contracts online, by telephone, through messaging or at their home or workplace may have statutory cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
13.2 For qualifying distance and off-premises service contracts, customers will generally have a 14-day cancellation period.
13.3 Where a customer requests that work commences within the statutory cancellation period, any required express request and acknowledgement will be obtained before work starts.
13.4 Where a service is fully performed during the cancellation period following the customer's valid express request and acknowledgement, the statutory right to cancel that service may end as provided by law.
13.5 Where a customer cancels after requesting an early start, payment for work already carried out may be recoverable in accordance with applicable legislation.
13.6 These provisions do not override or restrict any statutory cancellation rights or protections.
14. Customer Responsibilities
14.1 Customers must provide accurate information regarding their vehicle, reported faults and any previous repair work.
14.2 Customers must disclose any known safety issues or circumstances that may affect the work being undertaken.
14.3 Customers are responsible for removing personal belongings and valuables from areas of the vehicle where work is to be carried out.
14.4 Any special requirements or concerns should be communicated before work commences.
15. Liability and Consumer Rights
15.1 All work will be carried out with reasonable care and skill and in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
15.2 We are not responsible for unrelated pre-existing faults, mechanical deterioration or failures that are not caused by our work or supplied parts.
15.3 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for negligence causing death or personal injury, fraud or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.
15.4 Nothing in these terms removes or restricts the customer's rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other applicable consumer legislation.
16. Changes to These Terms
16.1 Jayes And Sons Mobile Mechanic Services reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions when necessary.
16.2 The terms applicable to an individual booking will be those provided and agreed at the time the contract is entered into, unless any subsequent changes are expressly agreed.
16.3 Updated terms will be made available through our website.
